JULIAN FESTIVAL: 12 May 2012 2 May 2012 - 11:00am

The annual Festival will take place on Saturday May 12th at St Julian’s Church starting at 11.00am with Solemn Mass followed by the Julian Lecture at 12.15pm.

This year’s lecturer is Brian Thorne, Emeritus Professor of Counselling at the University of East Anglia and currently Chairman of the Friends of Julian of Norwich. He is the first lecturer to deliver the Julian Lecture for the second time having been the lecturer in 1993 when he spoke on the theme of ‘Julian, Radical Psychotherapist’. His title for 2012 is: ‘A love too great to bear? Julian’s gauntlet to humanity’.

THE JULIAN FESTIVAL 7th MAY 2011 7 May 2011 (All day)

On 7th May, the annual Julian Festival took place, organised by the Friends of Julian.

The lecture this year was given by Dr Liz Herbert McAvoy, Senior Lecturer in Gender in English studies and Medieval Literature from Swansea University. Her lecture, From Soldier of Christ to Motherhood of God: Julian Rewrites the Language of the Anchorhold, was very well recieved.

The Shrine at Lourdes  VISIT OF LEARNING PROJECT OFFICER PAULINE LOVELOCK TO LOURDES

On October 22nd Pauline Lovelock leaves for a week's visit to the diocese of Lourdes and the famous pilgrimage Shrine. She goes at the invitation of the Bishop of Lourdes to act as an adviser to those concerned with the reception and teaching of children at the Shrine. The Bishop, Mgr Jacques Perrier, recently visited the Julian Shrine at his own request while based at Walsingham for a Conference of Rectors of Marian Shrines in Europe.

Cell Talk by Dana Bagshaw 4 July 2011 (All day) - 28 July 2011 (All day)

Cell Talk by Dana Bagshaw and directed by Wendy Walford is on at St Margarets Church, Kings Lynn on Wednesday 27th July at 7.30pm. This play is the conversations between Julian of Norwich, Margery Kempe of Lynn, two contrasting mediaeval woman who share life, laughter and radical thoughts about men, woman and God.

A DAY OF SILENCE 8 June 2011 - 1:51pm - 10 July 2011 - 1:51pm

A Day of Silence at St Julian's Church is a time for stillness, contemplation and prayer. On Saturday 9th July from 9.00am - 9.00pm. The day will begin with the Eucharist at 9.00am and end with Night Prayer at 8.45pm. Enjoy the silence, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day. Feel free to read, to reflect to rest.
The Garden and the Julian Centre will be open all day.

Enfolded in Love: Julian of Norwich 8 February 2011 - 7:00pm

A Musical Pageant in Norwich Cathedral on Tuesday 8th February 2011 at 7pm

Written and composed by June Boyce-Tillman and involving children from the following Norfolk schools:

The Norwich School, Kinsale, Drayton, St Peters Easton, Salhouse, All Saints Stibbard. Accompanied by the Norwich School Orchestra, the Southern Sinfonia String Quartet, students from Winchester University and various folk singers and soloists.

At Home In Love 26 October 2010 - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

A series of informal evening seminars exploring Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love as a journey into self-acceptance, presence and compassion. Each evening included a period of silence, and a presentation followed by discussion. Held at the Narthex at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist, Earlham Road, Norwich.

Julian Festival 2010. 8 May 2010 (All day)

The 2010 Julian Festival was held on Saturday 8th May 2010 and the guest lecturer was Barry Windeatt. He spoke to the title, Julian's Showings: Work in Progress.

Barry Windeatt is a Professor of English at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He began his career at Cambridge as a College Lecturer in English in 1978 and was subsequently appointed as a Reader in Medieval Literature (1995-2001), and, from 2001, Professor of English. He has also been Director of Studies in English (1979-97) and a Tutor (1983-95).

2009 Lecture: Professor Mary Grey 9 May 2009 - 11:00am

In 2009 the distinguished Catholic Theologian Professor Mary Grey spoke to the title 'And All Shall be Well: Julian's Theology of Hope in an Age of Violence'. Mary has been described as 'one of the most compassionate, clear and creative theologians writing today'. She was for many years Professor of Pastoral Theology at the University of Wales, Lampeter, and is now Professional Research Fellow at St Mary's University, Twickenham.

Julian and the Awakening of the Soul 3 March 2009 - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

During his 2009 sabbatical in Norwich Fr Gregory Fruehwirth of the Order of Julian of Norwich (based in Wisconsin, USA) offered a series of four sessions inviting participants to enter into Julian's mystical awareness and explore the relevance of her wisdom teachings for our times. The programme was entitled Julian of Norwich and the Awakening of the Soul of the 21st Century.

2008 Lecture: Canon Melvyn Matthews 10 May 2008 - 11:00am

In 2008 Canon Melvyn Matthews spoke on Two Women Facing Death: Julian of Norwich and Etty Hillesum. Melvyn is Chancellor Emeritus of Wells Cathedral, a prolific writer on spirituality and, until recently, he was Chancellor of the beautiful and historic Wells Cathedral. He has a long-term interest in the meaning and relevance of mysticism to the Church which began when he was a University Chaplain. His published works include Both Alike to Thee, The Hidden Word, God's Space in You, Nearer Than Breathing.

Julian of Norwich and Eckhart Tolle: Spirituality and Psychology embrace each other across the centuries 8 December 2007 - 10:00am

A workshop, facilitated by Fr Gregory Fruehwirth OJN (pictured) and Canon Professor Brian Thorne took place in December 2007 in Norwich on the above theme. The workshop talks by Brian and Fr Gregory are available as downloadable audio files.
